Report card on “reporting”

When it comes to hiring, this word earns a bad grade

Every job has its ups and downs. Even if you get to play with elephants as a zookeeper, at some point you have to clean the cage.

Last week we showed that job posts for copy editors are 25% more likely to fill quickly when they contain the phrase “technical writing.”

It turns out that writer job posts that include the word “reporting” have a 1 in 5 chance of filling more slowly than the industry average. And it’s not just that journalism is a tough gig, either. Many other job types show the same effect. “Reporting” negatively impacts time-to-fill for doctors and recruiters as well.
