Each year, the Crosscut Courage Awards recognizes people who have shown bold leadership and enduring courage, despite personal or organizational risk. Textio co-founder & CEO, Kieran Snyder was chosen for the 2019 award for Courage in Technology. The 2019 award winners were chosen because they are leaders who have reached across social, cultural, political or ideological lines for the greater good.

In honoring Kieran, Crosscut highlighted Textio's work to use language to shape the cultures of companies, and improve the diversity of their workforce. A quote from the article noted, “For example, network hardware company and Textio client Cisco found that writing job postings that used the phrase, “We change the world” — one of Cisco’s values — filled 10 days faster. Jobs posted by tech company NVIDIA filled seven days faster on average when language encouraging people of all genders and sexual orientation to apply was included in job descriptions.”

Crosscut also recognized Kieran’s drive to give back to the community. Kieran’s contributions have shown through in the Textio community Explorathon, her years coaching girls basketball at the YMCA, and her work as a mentor in the Ella Project.
